Subject: SCAM-Remittances of OFW from Singapore
FROM: Makati employee

At 8:39am, today 21 July I received a text message saying:

‘CONGRATULATIONS!! Ur Mobile # has WON a Charity Prize.from: REMITTANCES OF OFW-PCMC.,July 20, 2007, Call me up now.. For more details.I’m ART J. TEVES’.

As an skeptic person in nature, I called the name of the person to check if this is true. The person on the other line about I think 40 in yrs old, told me that im the 4th winner today. Scary, he even memorize my sim #. Too hesitant, ask him lots of question which annoyed him telling me that it’s not like one of those modus operandi or a text scam. He told me that all I have to do is to text him my full name, age, birthday and complete address. I even ask him the acronyms of the PCMC. He told me that a group of Charity Officers based in Singapore are working to help families of millions of OFWs worldwide and that my sim number was chosen via random selection. After a couple of q&a, however still in doubt, we hanged up. Still hesitant to send the requirements he instructed me to sms, I searched the internet for various remittances scam, even texted a private investigatory program in tv but advises to do the same- to ignore them. I was not satisfied with the result, I actually want these people to have them learned their lesson before they can manipulate and fool a lot of many Filipinos who’s willing to do anything for the sake of their families. After searching, found this forum from www.gov.ph with numerous of similar scams. Thinking aloud, this should not stopped from increasing the people’s awareness for any possibilities, that this could also happen to them. But someone or somebody should act and do something to stopped these anomaly. We cannot do this alone, we need everyone to help us think of possible ways to stopped them from growing and let the goverment do something about it. As a concern citizen, there’s a big difference if we do share our part in stopping this..

pls ensure that privacy of the sender’s info remains confidential. thanks. and more power!

    hi everyone

just this morning (july 11, 2011) i received a text message concerning about my sim number which won fro a raffle draw done by Global Remittance of OFW w/ BSP. The msg says ” Congrats! ur sim # won 780,000.00Php from Global remittance of OFW w/ BSP. To clain your prize, call me now? im Atty. mark B. Salasar. DTI-NCR Permit # 0922’11. – The first thing that pop into my mind is “was it a scam?” – because in the first place, i have not joined any raffle draw w/c my number can possibly won, 2nd, they could have sent a letter including the process of claiming the prize or to have a personal call because it involves a big amount of money; because of my curiousity, i called the so called “ATTY. MARK SALASAR”. he’s asking me if could give him my profile (personal details) such as name, address, age, contact number (because i have in my mind that this is a scam & giving such complete infos regarding yourself is not that safe esp. when you do not know the person). I asked him to send to my email a letter that will give me the ASSURANCE of the LEGALITY of this contest w/c “i won”. Upto now – i haven’t received any email from them.. LOL =))

Everyone should be very careful with this kind of scam before you realize that they already got something from you that may put your life & your loved ones’ life in danger. Upto now, such scam still runs, while the authority cannot caught them – we should be very vocal in giving awareness to other potential victims of those guys behind this text msg. scam tactics. * DO NOT give personal o=infos without any assurance that you are having a LEGAL, TRUE & VALID transactions w/ others. Do not be threatened – interview them instead of “them” interviewing you. Ask for an assurance that this is LEGAL. – if they cannot present any valid documents – then.. its a scam.

have a nice day everyone :)

Classic text scam, received it 5 mins ago. Thought I’d share it with other folks. It follows:

“Our records indicate you still have not claimed compensation for your accident. You may be entitled up to £3650. To find out more reply ‘CLAIM’. ”

Think I got this message before a while ago but from a different number. Obviously I’m not stupid enough to reply. Neither should anyone else be. I know I haven’t had an accident recently, and the message doesn’t mention a name of a company or any representative. Classic scam I think.

Anyway here’s the number if it helps in any way or helps to trace the scammers.

I’m just wondering how did they know and where did they acquire the mobile numbers. his is his number – +639104666305.

  31. miko says:

  37. Tina Dela Cruz says:

Hi. I am an OFW and I have a roaming sim card with me. I regularly remit money to the Philippines but on March 27, 2010, someone named HANZ P. RUFINO texted my roaming number, saying : “CONGRATULATIONS! Ur Mobile # has WON a Charity Prize From : GLOBAL REMITTANCES of OFW Last 26/Mar/2010. Call me up now.. For more details.. I’m HANZ P. RUFINO” – 0920-5875811

I know that this is a scam, since I looked up the internet and there’s no such promo for GLOBAL remittances of OFW. I am just curious on how he got my number. I’ve read the other comments, but this time, it’s different coz I am the one who “won”, instead of my family in the Phils.

Just for curiousity, I called him eventhough it’s a long distance call. Even before telling me what the raffle is all about, he already said to me that “your family in the Phils cannot claim the prize.. it will be sent to you there abroad”. He is also surprised that I did not ask how I won. Then I told him that, why would I be surprised? He sounded so sarcastic, maybe because he is expecting that I am so excited about the prize or that I am dumb to believe him.

He just told me to text my information to him, complete name, address, contact number abroad, OFW #, passport #, so that “he can verify” that I am a legitimate OFW. I did not call him back again.. I reported his name and number to NTC.. and hopes that he will be caught in case he’s into those scams.

I am just curious on how he got that information.. my roaming number, because co-incidentally, i made a remittance the day before he texted me.. i didn’t give out my roaming number to anyone, so i am just curious on how he got the number..

  42. victim of text scam says:

hi! we were victimized by one of the scammers last oct 5. iba naman tong modus nya. he texted my husband na hello! nagbago na ako ng number. musta na kau jan? ako ok lng naman…etc.etc…den nagpakilala syang sister sya ng huby ko. start daw sila ng prepaid card business dun sa kuwait. 500 ung puhunan den ung kita is 1000. hati kami, tig 500. so ayun, knowing that he/she is the sis, nag-oo naman agad ang huby ko. alam nya na nandun sa kuwait ang sis-in-law ko. pano kaya nangyari un? and the way he/she texts, para din talagang sis-in-law ko kaya parang no doubt talaga kami dat day. grabe on that day, we purchased 80k worth of prepaid globe card (75K) and smart (5K) and sent it to him thru text. we were really deceived by this texter. kinabukasan nalaman ng husband ko na di pala nya sis un. just to keep to the line open, tinetext pa rin namin sya and we reported it to nbi, ntc & globe. unfortunately, wat ntc could do is just to block the #. si globe, wala ring magawa kasi prepaid sim sya, no details of the person using the sim. den si nbi, helpless din kasi hanggat di malaman ang identity, di rin matrace. the nbi agent told us that we give him money thru gcash para just in case he will claim the money, hingan sya ng ID at details (contact #, name, address), matrace na kun san sya. pero professional text scammer na ata ang gago na to, sobrang talino…ayaw talaga nya ipa-gcash, gusto nya pin lng ng celphone ang ipapadala sa knya para un din daw esend nya sa mga omorder sa knya. naisip ko nga, grabe naman ang order nya kasi 150 prepaid loads worth 500 each per day. pero dahil nga sbi ng husband ko na sister nya un at knowing na negosyante din ang sis nya, i havent questioned it na.

now, di na sya sumasagot sa text namin. di rin sya makontak. ewan ko ba, bakit di naman naisip un everify before we sent the cards. sobrang sama talaga ng loob ko. ang laki ng nawala sa amin. parang piniga ung dibdib ko, sinaksak ako ng kutsilyo at binugbog ng todo when i knew that it was a scam.

sana globe smart and other telcom companies will cooperate. sabi ng tiga nbi, if they will register ask their consumers to register all prepaid cards, maiwasan ang mga scam na to kasi madaling matrace ang scammer. but since wala talagang makuhang identity, there is no way to trace them.

sana maging lesson din to sa inyo. as of now, me and my husband are still depressed/sad/furious/disappointed lahat2x na on what happened to us. sayang ang money. napakamaterial pa naman ng 80k! kun kelan kami nagkaprob financially, saka pa kami nabiktima.

500 ung puhunan den ung kita is 1000. hati kami, tig 500. so ayun, knowing that he/she is the sis, nag-oo naman agad ang huby ko. alam nya na nandun sa kuwait ang sis-in-law ko. pano kaya nangyari un? and the way he/she texts, para din talagang sis-in-law ko kaya parang no doubt talaga kami dat day. grabe on that day, we purchased 80k worth of prepaid globe card (75K) and smart (5K) and sent it to him thru text. we were really deceived by this texter. kinabukasan nalaman ng husband ko na di pala nya sis un. just to keep to the line open, tinetext pa rin namin sya and we reported it to nbi, ntc & globe. unfortunately, wat ntc could do is just to block the #. si globe, wala ring magawa kasi prepaid sim sya, no details of the person using the sim. den si nbi, helpless din kasi hanggat di malaman ang identity, di rin matrace. the nbi agent told us that we give him money thru gcash para just in case he will claim the money, hingan sya ng ID at details (contact #, name, address), matrace na kun san sya. pero professional text scammer na ata ang gago na to, sobrang talino…ayaw talaga nya ipa-gcash, gusto nya pin lng ng celphone ang ipapadala sa knya para un din daw esend nya sa mga omorder sa knya. naisip ko nga, grabe naman ang order nya kasi 150 prepaid loads worth 500 each per day. pero dahil nga sbi ng husband ko na sister nya un at knowing na negosyante din ang sis nya, i havent questioned it na.

now, di na sya sumasagot sa text namin. di rin sya makontak. ewan ko ba, bakit di naman naisip un everify before we sent the cards. sobrang sama talaga ng loob ko. ang laki ng nawala sa amin. parang piniga ung dibdib ko, sinaksak ako ng kutsilyo at binugbog ng todo when i knew that it was a scam.

sana globe smart and other telcom companies will cooperate. sabi ng tiga nbi, if they will register ask their consumers to register all prepaid cards, maiwasan ang mga scam na to kasi madaling matrace ang scammer. but since wala talagang makuhang identity, there is no way to trace them.

sana maging lesson din to sa inyo. as of now, me and my husband are still depressed/sad/furious/disappointed lahat2x na on what happened to us. sayang ang money. napakamaterial pa naman ng 80k! kun kelan kami nagkaprob financially, saka pa kami nabiktima.

may araw din ang mga scammers na yan. diyos na ang bahala sa knila. eto pala # nya 09172466129. if u know him/her, pls contact me po….gusto ko talaga syang patayin!!!!

  54. ahura_mazda says:

i have also received the same text. she says she’s Liza aragon. I said you silly bastard i already know your modus operation, and i’ll kill you. Just be careful okey.

  55. Eliv says:

I just received a similar text message from Renz Prieto informing that I won 42,000 USD. So this is the cunning man trying to get a living out of other people’s blood. I believe this man has access to Smart number directory even for roaming service. Let’s be aware of this SCAM.

  56. XBOX TSR says:

    > it so happened my dad is an OFW (Saudi) and my mom happens to be one of those OC-SKEPTIC persons watchamacallit.

    > my mom apparently got theSAME exact message from this sickf@ck ( RENZ J. PRIETO ) and where she panicked and rushed in confiding the message she just got. Me, knowing this is one of those TEXT SCAMS and immediately told her that a PROMO will be LEGIT unless-otherwise she received a CALL informing her she really won.

    > true enough, played a junior detective, opened my PC, searched OFW-PCMC on google searc, and… voila!!! that ended our agument.

    >> not contented and triggered by my curiosity, I ended up calling this sick@ss mobile # and seems like he’s trying to sound SMART, lucky enough that bastard didn’t know who he was talking to. He ended up mumbling and grumbling with his words not knowing what PCMS is and I was hunged up on.

    > adrenalin still pumping in, I texted him and introduced myslef as Insp. CHRIS REYNOSO from QC Interpol and that he is closely investigated and is under surveilance, next thing I know, he cut off his phone and never heard a ringing tone on his end.

    >> LESSON LEARNED: there is really NOTHING we can do with cases like these. we are just one of those PUNY punks why such sick bastards enjoy what they are doing. no promo is valid and legit unless you joined or applied for a certain promo and try confiding with your folks before you end up as walking target by such crazy bastards. i don’t mind this happening to me but the thought of putting my mother’s safety at risk will be another thing. I even imagined doing an entrapment but on that note I might put my family’s safe-keeping in jeopardy. so I just ruled it out.

    >> time and again silly things happen and SHIT just rolls out, for cases like this, it’s imperative that we don’t panick and think millions of times first if that helps.

    >> don’t even mind or bother such cases to local authorities and don’t even bother raising such issue to any agency of the government, why? it’s so damn simple, come to think of it folks.. we’re in Philippines, there is nothing much THEY can do and so are WE.

    >> things in life are not catered on GOLD PLATES, so come to think of it =)

  57. josh says:

I called her today and i got this news that she has won from REMITANCES OF OFW PCMC 500,000 but to be able to claim it, she has to buy Smart Buddy sim card which my mom immediately did. There was really something fishy there when this certain Art S. Javier even offered to deliver the winnings to my mom.And the office address they gave is here in Singapore. My family back home dont have access to internet so they didn’t know anything about scams.I checked about it here and thankfully, i found out that it is indeed a big SCAM. Imagine what could have happened if my mom just followed what was asked from her. I really hope that these people will be caught and punished for doing this…

guys, nakareceive din girlfriend ko ng same text message just this day lang regarding REMITTANCES OF OFW-PCMC. Im suspecting na scam lang yun but ofcourse gusto ko rin maniguro buti na lang nakita ko itong forum na to, thanks sa mga concern citizens, hehehe. cel number nung nagtext ay 09295357120, nagpapakilalang Rod Esteves… ingat na lang kayo. kung gusto nyo ipa-trace yug number ng mga yan pwede kayo lumapit sa NTC (National Telecommunications Commission), kaya nila i-trace yan or i-block yung number as well (dont know kung pati celphone). kaso mura na sim card ngayun, they can change everyday if they want. better sana kung magkaroon ng entrapment sa mga ganitong tao.

I wanted to share a bit of my story related to this matter as well. My 18- yr old maid recieved a message from a man named “Rod J. Teves” claiming that her number had also won an amount of $500,000 Pesos. I was really shocked, when the next day, she asked me if she could advance her pay this month at 1,800 so she could buy these phone cards to talk to the person incharge of these so called “Charity Prizes” something should be done about these people. And I want to help anyone who’s been a victim of these crimes, but I really need your support. Please, if you have been a victim, Please email your story to my email address, and I’ll try to find a way to get more light on this situation and also to make other’s more aware of what might happen if they fall for this. Please email me at Soleil_lunamethyst@hotmail.com. Thank you
