Subject: SCAM-Remittances of OFW from Singapore
FROM: Makati employee

At 8:39am, today 21 July I received a text message saying:

‘CONGRATULATIONS!! Ur Mobile # has WON a Charity Prize.from: REMITTANCES OF OFW-PCMC.,July 20, 2007, Call me up now.. For more details.I’m ART J. TEVES’.

As an skeptic person in nature, I called the name of the person to check if this is true. The person on the other line about I think 40 in yrs old, told me that im the 4th winner today. Scary, he even memorize my sim #. Too hesitant, ask him lots of question which annoyed him telling me that it’s not like one of those modus operandi or a text scam. He told me that all I have to do is to text him my full name, age, birthday and complete address. I even ask him the acronyms of the PCMC. He told me that a group of Charity Officers based in Singapore are working to help families of millions of OFWs worldwide and that my sim number was chosen via random selection. After a couple of q&a, however still in doubt, we hanged up. Still hesitant to send the requirements he instructed me to sms, I searched the internet for various remittances scam, even texted a private investigatory program in tv but advises to do the same- to ignore them. I was not satisfied with the result, I actually want these people to have them learned their lesson before they can manipulate and fool a lot of many Filipinos who’s willing to do anything for the sake of their families. After searching, found this forum from www.gov.ph with numerous of similar scams. Thinking aloud, this should not stopped from increasing the people’s awareness for any possibilities, that this could also happen to them. But someone or somebody should act and do something to stopped these anomaly. We cannot do this alone, we need everyone to help us think of possible ways to stopped them from growing and let the goverment do something about it. As a concern citizen, there’s a big difference if we do share our part in stopping this..

pls ensure that privacy of the sender’s info remains confidential. thanks. and more power!

    hi everyone

just this morning (july 11, 2011) i received a text message concerning about my sim number which won fro a raffle draw done by Global Remittance of OFW w/ BSP. The msg says ” Congrats! ur sim # won 780,000.00Php from Global remittance of OFW w/ BSP. To clain your prize, call me now? im Atty. mark B. Salasar. DTI-NCR Permit # 0922’11. – The first thing that pop into my mind is “was it a scam?” – because in the first place, i have not joined any raffle draw w/c my number can possibly won, 2nd, they could have sent a letter including the process of claiming the prize or to have a personal call because it involves a big amount of money; because of my curiousity, i called the so called “ATTY. MARK SALASAR”. he’s asking me if could give him my profile (personal details) such as name, address, age, contact number (because i have in my mind that this is a scam & giving such complete infos regarding yourself is not that safe esp. when you do not know the person). I asked him to send to my email a letter that will give me the ASSURANCE of the LEGALITY of this contest w/c “i won”. Upto now – i haven’t received any email from them.. LOL =))

Everyone should be very careful with this kind of scam before you realize that they already got something from you that may put your life & your loved ones’ life in danger. Upto now, such scam still runs, while the authority cannot caught them – we should be very vocal in giving awareness to other potential victims of those guys behind this text msg. scam tactics. * DO NOT give personal o=infos without any assurance that you are having a LEGAL, TRUE & VALID transactions w/ others. Do not be threatened – interview them instead of “them” interviewing you. Ask for an assurance that this is LEGAL. – if they cannot present any valid documents – then.. its a scam.

have a nice day everyone :)
