Remittances of OFW-PCMC. Text Scam Report by Cathy Rivera

Posted under as Text Message Scam

Subject: SCAM-Remittances of OFW from Singapore
FROM: Makati employee

At 8:39am, today 21 July I received a text message saying:

‘CONGRATULATIONS!! Ur Mobile # has WON a Charity Prize.from: REMITTANCES OF OFW-PCMC.,July 20, 2007, Call me up now.. For more details.I’m ART J. TEVES’.

As an skeptic person in nature, I called the name of the person to check if this is true. The person on the other line about I think 40 in yrs old, told me that im the 4th winner today. Scary, he even memorize my sim #. Too hesitant, ask him lots of question which annoyed him telling me that it’s not like one of those modus operandi or a text scam. He told me that all I have to do is to text him my full name, age, birthday and complete address. I even ask him the acronyms of the PCMC. He told me that a group of Charity Officers based in Singapore are working to help families of millions of OFWs worldwide and that my sim number was chosen via random selection. After a couple of q&a, however still in doubt, we hanged up. Still hesitant to send the requirements he instructed me to sms, I searched the internet for various remittances scam, even texted a private investigatory program in tv but advises to do the same- to ignore them. I was not satisfied with the result, I actually want these people to have them learned their lesson before they can manipulate and fool a lot of many Filipinos who’s willing to do anything for the sake of their families. After searching, found this forum from www.gov.ph with numerous of similar scams. Thinking aloud, this should not stopped from increasing the people’s awareness for any possibilities, that this could also happen to them. But someone or somebody should act and do something to stopped these anomaly. We cannot do this alone, we need everyone to help us think of possible ways to stopped them from growing and let the goverment do something about it. As a concern citizen, there’s a big difference if we do share our part in stopping this..

pls ensure that privacy of the sender’s info remains confidential. thanks. and more power!

Hello poh,

I wanted to share a bit of my story related to this matter as well. My 18- yr old maid recieved a message from a man named “Rod J. Teves” claiming that her number had also won an amount of $500,000 Pesos. I was really shocked, when the next day, she asked me if she could advance her pay this month at 1,800 so she could buy these phone cards to talk to the person incharge of these so called “Charity Prizes” something should be done about these people. And I want to help anyone who’s been a victim of these crimes, but I really need your support. Please, if you have been a victim, Please email your story to my email address, and I’ll try to find a way to get more light on this situation and also to make other’s more aware of what might happen if they fall for this. Please email me at Soleil_lunamethyst@hotmail.com. Thank you

Hi everyone. i just got a text from NIKKO ALVAREZ telling me the same thing. Grabe talaga ang mga taong ito!!! If i meet them i’l assure you guys, I’L CUT THEIR HANDS AND LET THEM EAT IT!!! Is there anyone/agency you know guys that can help us to stop them? Magtulungan na lang po tayo para sa mga taong maari pa nilang mabiktima. Here are my numbers 0921-9936911; 0922-8166014.

guys, nakareceive din girlfriend ko ng same text message just this day lang regarding REMITTANCES OF OFW-PCMC. Im suspecting na scam lang yun but ofcourse gusto ko rin maniguro buti na lang nakita ko itong forum na to, thanks sa mga concern citizens, hehehe. cel number nung nagtext ay 09295357120, nagpapakilalang Rod Esteves… ingat na lang kayo. kung gusto nyo ipa-trace yug number ng mga yan pwede kayo lumapit sa NTC (National Telecommunications Commission), kaya nila i-trace yan or i-block yung number as well (dont know kung pati celphone). kaso mura na sim card ngayun, they can change everyday if they want. better sana kung magkaroon ng entrapment sa mga ganitong tao.

I’m here in Singapore and y mom’s in the Phils. I called her today and i got this news that she has won from REMITANCES OF OFW PCMC 500,000 but to be able to claim it, she has to buy Smart Buddy sim card which my mom immediately did. There was really something fishy there when this certain Art S. Javier even offered to deliver the winnings to my mom.And the office address they gave is here in Singapore. My family back home dont have access to internet so they didn’t know anything about scams.I checked about it here and thankfully, i found out that it is indeed a big SCAM. Imagine what could have happened if my mom just followed what was asked from her. I really hope that these people will be caught and punished for doing this…

That was when my father doubted so called atty SALONGA.

I also received a message from a guy named RENZ J. > it so happened my dad is an OFW (Saudi) and my mom happens to be one of those OC-SKEPTIC persons watchamacallit.

> my mom apparently got theSAME exact message from this sickf@ck ( RENZ J. PRIETO ) and where she panicked and rushed in confiding the message she just got. Me, knowing this is one of those TEXT SCAMS and immediately told her that a PROMO will be LEGIT unless-otherwise she received a CALL informing her she really won.

> true enough, played a junior detective, opened my PC, searched OFW-PCMC on google searc, and… voila!!! that ended our agument.

>> not contented and triggered by my curiosity, I ended up calling this sick@ss mobile # and seems like he’s trying to sound SMART, lucky enough that bastard didn’t know who he was talking to. He ended up mumbling and grumbling with his words not knowing what PCMS is and I was hunged up on.

> adrenalin still pumping in, I texted him and introduced myslef as Insp. CHRIS REYNOSO from QC Interpol and that he is closely investigated and is under surveilance, next thing I know, he cut off his phone and never heard a ringing tone on his end.

>> LESSON LEARNED: there is really NOTHING we can do with cases like these. we are just one of those PUNY punks why such sick bastards enjoy what they are doing. no promo is valid and legit unless you joined or applied for a certain promo and try confiding with your folks before you end up as walking target by such crazy bastards. i don’t mind this happening to me but the thought of putting my mother’s safety at risk will be another thing. I even imagined doing an entrapment but on that note I might put my family’s safe-keeping in jeopardy. so I just ruled it out.

>> time and again silly things happen and SHIT just rolls out, for cases like this, it’s imperative that we don’t panick and think millions of times first if that helps.

>> don’t even mind or bother such cases to local authorities and don’t even bother raising such issue to any agency of the government, why? it’s so damn simple, come to think of it folks.. we’re in Philippines, there is nothing much THEY can do and so are WE.

>> things in life are not catered on GOLD PLATES, so come to think of it =)

I just received a similar text message from Renz Prieto informing that I won 42,000 USD. So this is the cunning man trying to get a living out of other people’s blood. I believe this man has access to Smart number directory even for roaming service. Let’s be aware of this SCAM.

i have also received the same text. she says she’s Liza aragon. I said you silly bastard i already know your modus operation, and i’ll kill you. Just be careful okey.

I got a message on my roaming from a name renz J. prieto telling me that I won a prize of $42,000.00 from ofw-pcmc remittances 63-9082597208. I called this number as per his instructions. He congratulate me as ‘dakilang-piliino(ofw) and he asked me to text my requirements so he could start processing my papers. After we spoke on Nov. 10, I check in the internet and found out his name as text scam. he text me repeatedly to send my identity, passport #, contact etc. I text him back and said to stop fooling people for panalo. Still he kept sending me message to send the requirements. To all people who receive messages like this should be aware that people of this kind are just sick mind. Be alert!email address: sinta_leron@yahoo.ca(kristine perillo)
